The earth is a living thing. It is a fragment of the Tao, just like you and me. The oil spill is not just impacting the lives of everything in the Gulf, it is affecting the earth very deeply.
Eventually the leak will be plugged but the damage is great and the healing process will be very lengthy. This oil leak damage will escalate beyond what we anticipate. The damage is more than the water being made unhealthy and killing the plants, fish, and wild life. It is also more than creating economic ruin for most those who live in that part of the planet. The harm will be beyond the Gulf and will also be deep within the earth. The actual soul of the earth has also been affected.
This harm will spur more appropriate regulation and oversight for oil drilling. Of course, higher energy costs will probably be the result because that is part of the game these companies play as a means of keeping power, but this time, that power and control will be shattered. Inroads for alternative energy solutions will finally flourish and will become the norm and the main source.
In the future we will look back as this oil disaster in the Gulf as being a defining moment when things changed in regards to how we look not only at energy, but also mother earth. We will recognize that life can be fragile and if we need to better stewards of the earth if we are going to be allowed to live on the earth.
This foolish act of poor judgment, triggered by greed and incompetency, initiated so much damage to the earth, the air, the plants, the fish, to humankind, including loss of life; our whole ecosystem is teetering out of balance. The only positive outcome of this tragedy will be better oversight, regulation, and will force our hand to move in the direction of finding other energy solutions.
